I am, by the way, not much of a "resort girl". I'm very much interested in culture. Suggestions, travel stories, etc?
I am not concerned about going to a terribly safe destination. I plan on studying archaeology/anthropology in college, which would put me in either central Africa or the Middle East anyway.
I'd just like to advise you not to go to India alone. From my conversation with friends, I've a female friend who took the train in India and she encountered Indians who tried to take her purse and kept touching her hand to feel her white complexion. I also have a male friend who was robbed even when he was there with his friend. They all dressed very ordinarily. Just be very careful if you go to India.

Vietnam. I was just there this year and it is magnificent. Halong Bay is definitely the highlight. Stay overnight on a boat and see the sunrise over the bay.
