97 Sebring vs 98 Escort - What's the better deal after repairs?

I have two cars where I work that I am thinking about buying. I'm curious as to what others think would be the better deal.

The first is a 1997 Chrysler Sebring LXi, AT fully loaded, white with black leather interior.
Car has 285 000 KMs , it needs front left strut, lower control arm and axle shaft. Approx 5.5 hours labour + parts.

Second is a 1998 Ford Escort ZX2, MT power windows and locks, aftermarket remote starter, red with grey cloth interior.
Timing chain is gone so it will need a motor install. I can get a used motor with 66 000 KMs for $350, 9.5 hours labour + fluids, gaskets and filters.

Price wise the Escort is the better deal by far, it will cost me $650 including new engine where the Sebring will bring me up to about $950 with parts, I won't pay labour since I work at a recycler with a shop but what I'm really wondering is the reliability. 285 K is such a high miler I am afraid I will be putting a new engine in within the year but the escort has 310 original KMs before the new engine goes in so I am fearful about tranny/clutch problems and after scanning it I came back with O2 Sensor failure so I'm betting I need a new catalytic converter.

So what do you think? Go for a car with a solid engine that isn't quite as nice or stable in general or go for the car that is nicer and possibly more stable all around but might nickle and dime me due to high mileage?

This is really a difficult question due to no one other
than yourself being able to answer to your own
personal considerations. If your personal mental
image of a vehicle for yourself conflicts with any
other persons idea, you will still be in a quandary.

To view it from a perspective of the most likely
vehicle to last you for your own normal use, the
Escort would seem to be the most logical choice.
However, that replacement engine you say only
has the 310 mileage (km), the question comes
to mind of it that it is factory mileage, or from a
time of rebuild. If it was a rebuild, who did it, and
might it be an actual rebuild or merely a re-ring job.
People consider a re-ring as a rebuild as a general
rule. New bearings, rings, and gaskets is no where
near having been rebuilt.

Next is the issue of how the Sebring got those
miles. A vehicle that has acquired those miles
from a lot of highway driving could actually be
a lot better lifewise than one that has 40 k from
most all city driving. This would also play a
large part in how worn other things are on the car.
The very type of the individuals driving, and location
of where the miles were acquired makes a big
difference. Over the years I have gotten the chance
to observe where city driven personal vehicles with
only 10,000 miles on them would not last as long
as state police vehicles sold at auction of the same
vintage, but with 80,000 miles on them.

On the face of it you would be getting a better deal
in getting the Escort, but your personal perception
is what would be the most critical in your decision.
Your perception of what you would have, coupled
with the fact that you work in a business where
you could possibly get parts can be a big part of
how you think, and no one else can impact that
to a point that would be worth much to your
decision.

Both cars are older, and can suffer failures with
no warning. A big thing to any decision must
also be one of the availability of any parts for
the most reasonable cost. A person can get
a car that far exceeds any other for the most
apparent value, and then pay through the nose
for just one part that would have far exceeded
another deal on a lessor car. To me, the
availability of all parts, and the cost is a most
important issue here. With your use of km instead
of miles, I would suspect that you live in an area
far different than mine, so I would be unable to
know how the issue of parts is for you for either
vehicle.

Future events………………?

Do you believe that the following events below could actually occur in the future?

Consider the following prophecies below written by the Christian Prophet Jonathan Hansen. Notice that he wrote these prophecies from the year 1997 when there were seemingly no signs of real trouble in America.

World Ministries International
Jonathan Hansen

Warning for 1998 - 2008
Note: 1998-2008 is not a time frame deadline for all to be fulfilled, but is the time to heavily focus on sharing the WARNING message for America.

During 1998 Pastor Hansen spoke in 40 cities in 30 states about the condition and future of America. The following was in an advertisement in The Seattle Times on December 26, 1997 regarding the United States of America.

*Stock Market Collapse
*Nuclear Attack
*Civil Unrest
*Social Security Collapse
*Natural disasters; tornadoes; tidal waves; the sea dying; 20 lb. hail stones; water poisoning; food shortages; red tides*
*Powerful Northwest Earthquake (Newly Discovered Earthquake Zone in Seattle Area 2003) (Pacific Northwest Tectonic Plates Are Moving) (FEB 2008 Mega EQ could inflict major damage on Pacific NW) (APRIL 11, 2008 Swarm of Earthquakes Detected Off Oregon) (MARCH 4, 2008 Seattle Emergency management officials prepare for catastrophic EQ)

On television Reverend Hansen warned concerning what was coming upon America and why. He read the Seattle Times advertisement then added the following items:

* The 520 bridge will collapse (This is a 1-mile long floating bridge across Lake Washington from Seattle to Bellevue and Redmond where Microsoft and Nintendo America are located).
* Mt. Rainier will erupt

On several radio stations Rev. Hansen warned concerning what was coming upon America:

* Nuclear, biological and chemical terrorism in different cities throughout America as well as several attacks. New York, Chicago, New Orleans, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Los Angeles and Florida. In remote areas there will be biological, chemical and nuclear experimentation. In the Pacific Northwest and Casper, Wyoming there will be a nuclear incident. There will also be chemical, biological, nuclear terrorism, and/or attack on the U.S. throughout the United States.
* In the Northwest, volcanic activity will occur.
* Earthquakes across America.

To avoid the above, there must be a mighty, genuine revival (repentance) as in Nineveh (Jonah 3:5-10). Or, a powerful spirit of prayer must arise that will result in the mercy and grace of God as Abraham interceded for Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 18:23-33). There is hope! If we meet the conditions of God (II Chronicles 7:14), he will hear our call, forgive us and heal the land! If we do not meet the conditions, judgment will fall and all of the prophecies will come to pass.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we the Church and people in America need to receive Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior in reality and practicality to avoid these events warned by the Lord from coming to pass. It is our sins that allow our enemies to hurt us.

God bless America, and may America look to Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior

ttansfering propane from a small tank to a large one?

ok, here is the deal.. i have only been in my current state for a little over 4 months,, i have never before used propane (i come from the city and i am now living in the middle of hicks-ville) Anyway, when i first moved in i had almost a full tank of propane (that was sept.) in nov. i had it filled half way but because it was a sunday the delivery driver wouldn't let me pay him (i tried) the bill came and it was around $400 for the half tank that he put in (very expensive if u ask me but i have no prior propane experience. Well, it was like 2 weeks before x-mas, i have a 7 year old, and i lost my job (temp and it ended) and i couldnt find a job ANYWHERE, i sent my resume to literally 30 jobs per day and i have a business degree BUT like i said, i literally live in the middle of friggin nowhere (there is not one job in this or surrounding towns and i am not exaggerating!) the closest places that have work are Raleigh and Durham which are almost an hour and a half,, which is tough because i have to put my son on the bus in the morning and get to night school by 6 (almost impossible) BUT i am desperate and will take anything but almost every job that calls me back or interviews me tells me that my resume is great BUT that the commute is too great and they are scared that they will train me and i will leave because i am burned out and sick of the drive :-( ok most of that wasnt really relevant but i had to vent! ok so i went to pay the bill and i was told that my landlords wife called thema nd told them that no one was allowed to porder propane for my house except her! so i told the propane company that there was no way in hell that i was paying them without a guarantee that i could get more fuel! Also i tried to get an account with them and they said i wasnt allowed that it HAD to be in my landlords name ?? wierd,, So i left and called my landlord and i told him and he said that he would fix it apparently the bill for my house and his were on the same account so he told me to just pay him and that i would be allowed to order so i called the propane company again and they said that he called and told them i could order BUT his wife said that it had to be COD! now again i was screwed because i could only afford the 400 bill NOT 400 PLUS a couple of more hundred that would have lasted a few weeks at best,,, Oh, and did i mention this house is an old farm house that has like NO insulation and cracks betweek the door frame that make it virtually impossible to keep warm? YIP it is so drafty in here that most of the time it is warmer outside and the only souse of heat is one of those old fashioned big block looking heaters wuth the pipe coming out that is in a remote corner of the house!! ok venting again, sorry.. SO i go to social services and they wound up giving me like 500 dollars worth the propane (80%) that was right before x-mas but the tank is mt again and now i have a dilemma.. i have been paying my landlord for the propane bill (not all of it yet but maybe 200) and yesterday i get a call from the propane company saying that they want money from me for the old bill!!!
wtf! i begged them for an account and was told NO, then i pay my LL and now they are saying that i still owe the bill.. i have no propane left, it is cold in my house, my LL isnt home, and other propane companies are saying that is illegal for them to fill the tank if it belongs to another company, but the tank is so old that i cant read anything on it,, also, if the LL owns it then they have to say it is ok to have it filled,, even if i pay up front.. what do i do now? i already paid the LL more than half but obviously he didnt pay the gad company and how can i be responsible for a bill when i was adamently denied an account?? so i was thinking…i need propane my dad is in town and he is smart and mechanical.. is it possible to buy some small propane tanks and transfer the propane from them into my big tank? i know it is more expensive that way, but if you think about it, repaying 400 plus getting a delivery that i have to pay cod for it and that will be like 700,, which i cant afford because of what i mentioned above plus my LL isnt going to pay me back , i know he wont,, he came complaining to me a few weeks ago that he got laid off and he is old so no one will hire him. i want to move so bad because i need to work not only for financial reasons but also if i dont soon i will go NUTS from cabin fever!! but even if i get a new place today it is unreasonable that i will be moved in in less than a week and i dont want to freeze so if i can get just enough propane to last a week or so i will be happy and i will tell my LL to keep my security deposit to pay the rest of the bill and for a new screen (my cat ripped) i dont mind taking a loss because it will literally cost me less to move than to pay the bill… does anyone know how to transfer propane> please dont say it is dangerous or illegal,, I KNOW THAT! i am just asking if it is possible

It is physically possible, but not a good idea. You connect a hose from the portable container service valve to the service valve on the storage tank.Turn the portable container upside down and elevate it above the storage tank.open both service valves. It takes a heckuva long time, but it will transfer. If you open the bleeder valve on the storage tank, that will lower the pressure in the storage tank and will help speed it up a bit, but you will be losing some fuel in the process.

It takes a lot of time and a lot of effort. You also need a special hose, which nobody is going to sell you! Propane service people would carry one to use in an emergency, but they aren't going to sell one to the public. It isn't really a safe practice for an experienced gas fitter to do, never mind a homeowner…

I would reccomend you get a portable heater and just forget that tank until you get sorted out and back on your feet.

I am, by the way, not much of a "resort girl". I'm very much interested in culture. Suggestions, travel stories, etc?
I am not concerned about going to a terribly safe destination. I plan on studying archaeology/anthropology in college, which would put me in either central Africa or the Middle East anyway.

I'd just like to advise you not to go to India alone. From my conversation with friends, I've a female friend who took the train in India and she encountered Indians who tried to take her purse and kept touching her hand to feel her white complexion. I also have a male friend who was robbed even when he was there with his friend. They all dressed very ordinarily. Just be very careful if you go to India.
