Please, Please, Please help!!!!?

I had to do 50 questions in science and i have been stuck on 6 for an hour! Please, if anyone knows any of them, i will truly appreciate it! Each question has to be in paragraph form. This is related to science in mapping the Earth. I will give out 10 points for the best one!

1) Define latitude and longitude, and explain how these measurements in navigation.

2) What is remote sensing, and what are some ways mapping data can be gathered remotely?

3)What is a GPS, and how does it work?

4)Describe three methods used to measure the height of Mt. Everest.

5) What is sonar, and how is it used to map the ocean fllor?

6) How did ancient explorers find their way?

THANK YOU ALL!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!!

1) Latitude measures the mileage from the equator and logitude measures the mileage from the prime meridian in London. Sailors can tell how many miles away from London by the latitude and longitude markers all over the world.

2) Remote sensing is the use of radio controled devices to go out and measure mileage and place latitude and longitude markers.

3) GPS is the Global Placemarker System and works by remote sensing satellites that can compare where a GPS reciever is broadcasting from with the nearby latitude and longitude markers and send a signal back that tells you where you are.

4) Mount Everest has been measured with a tape measure in 1928 by Admiral Byrd, in 1952 by plumb bob from the Soviet satellite Jarvik IV, and in 2001 by remote sensing from America's Skylab.

5) Sonar is Sound Originating Naval Onbord Radar, and is used to bounce radar signals off the ocean floor so satellites can recieve the signals to make maps.

6) Ancient explorers used speculums to see further and released captured sea gulls to see which way they flew to the nearest land.

Does anybody know the cost estimation of coal exploitation at surface mining?

I would like to know since we would like to exploit 30000 MT/month of sub bituminuos coal in 100 Ha area (remote area)

In the United States contact Peabody Coal, American Electric Power; Arch Coal; Kennecott Energy. All of these companies are major producers. Each will have an exploration division. Be prepared to answer questions about ownership, overburden, access, thickness of the coal, etc. Good Luck

To where in the world should I move?

I recently won a lottery and have decided to move away from where I am currently living (northern canada).
I am 25 years old, single, have 2 big dogs, and i would like an acreage, or at least a house with a huge yard.

i have a masters degree and I'm very liberal (by American standards) but I'm no bleeding heart. I'm pretty down to earth but i enjoy the company of people who are educated as well.

i'd rather be away from the city than right in it, but i don't want to live anywhere too remote. (more than 30 min drive to a city is too far). my dogs and I need the space.

I love the outdoors - camping, trail running & hiking, fishing, exploring - all of these things are important to me… much more important than proximity to starbucks or 5th avenue.

with all that in mind, evaluate my short list and give some more suggestions if you like.

-nicoya peninsula, Costa rica (Montezuma probably)
-kelowna, BC, Canada
-Kalispell, MT
-Seattle/surrounding area
-humboldt county, CA
-Boulder, CO?

West Virginia is the world's best kept secret. they have everything you want and more. They have riverafting, camping, skiing, hiking, beautiful waterfalls and scenery as well as friendly and calm people. Crime is very low here and it is a good place to raise a family if that is something you are thiking about. The area surrounding southerm WV has beautiful scenery, whitewater rafting etc. the state capital (Charleston) is very properous and you could find a job there. I would check into West Virginia, you may be very suprised, but i love it here, and would never go anyplace else. It looks as beautiful as Ireland, and when the seasons change, it is the greatest. Plus, no earthquakes, tornoados or hurricanes here. Land in WV is A LOT cheaper than the other places, and you get a really great deal. plus it is very discrete and you could get away from everything. If you are single and looking for someone, people here are very friendly, and dow-to-earth. they are not pretentuous or snobby.

can't get tivo remote to use volume up?

i just hooked up my tivo to a new tv…its a memorex mt 2024…i first tried the 4 digit codes that tivo suggest, none worked..so online i saw the section on how to use the channel up to test hundreds of automated codes which are split into power, then channel up/down and input, and lastly into volume and mute…the first two worked fine after it found the right code..lastly i tried the volume control..which i thought worked fine cause sooner or later the volume muted, so i pressed enter to accept the code…but when i went to test everything out, when i would press volume up it would go to the tv menu section…mute works, volume down works, but volume up does not…does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this so volume up works on the tv as well?

I have the same problem. I have a sony svr-3000 (series 2), and a sony svr-2000 (series 1). Both of them have the same remote and on one of the remotes the volume up, volume down, and mute doesn't work. Only the TV on/off button works. It has the same exact problem on multiple tvs. When I put in the same code with the other remote everything works fine. I think your remote is shot..
